Sie war die Nachfolgerin von Steffi Graf auf dem Thron der Tenniskönigin. Dann der Skandal: Verbannung vom Tenniscourt wegen Kokain-Dopings! Jetzt wagt Martina Hingis (29) ein Comeback – als Model. Auch Privat ist sie rundum glücklich: Ihr Freund Andreas hat ihr vor kurzem einen Heiratsantrag gemacht!
Vier Jahre war sie die Nr. 1 der Weltrangliste. Ihre Traumkarriere endete im November 2007 mit einem Hammerschlag: Zwei Jahre Sperre, weil Kokain in ihrem Blut nachgewiesen wurde. Im BUNTE-Gespräch erinnert sich die Schweizerin an den Tag, als ihre Welt einstürzte: „Ich dachte erst an eine Verwechslung, denn ich hatte nie was mit Drogen zu tun. Ein Riesenschock.“ Tennis war ihr Ein und Alles, etwas anderes gab es nicht.

Es war die härteste Zeit ihres Lebens. Darüber zu sprechen fällt ihr immer noch nicht leicht, sie presst die Arme eng an den Körper und senkt den Blick. „Ich war plötzlich von allem ausgeschlossen, was ich mein Leben lang gemacht hatte. Ich konnte meine Freunde nicht mehr treffen, Turniere nicht mehr besuchen. Ich war plötzlich in einer ganz anderen Realität angekommen.“ Mit der musste sie erst mal klarkommen. Und mit dem Gefühl großer Ungerechtigkeit. „Warum bekomme gerade ich zwei Jahre? Noch nie hat jemand für so was eine so hohe Sperre bekommen. Am Anfang hatte ich den totalen Frust, war stinkwütend. Dann fühlte ich mich wie gelähmt, konnte mich zu nichts aufraffen.“

Irgendwann gewöhnte sich Hingis daran, nicht mehr täglich eingespannt zu sein, nicht mehr von Turnier zu Turnier zu hetzen. „Schließlich kam sogar ein Hochgefühl: keine Schinderei mehr, Nutella zum Frühstück, Fernsehen, Urlaub und Partys, wann ich will.“ Doch auch diese Phase hielt nicht lange an, die Ex-Sportlerin geriet ins Grübeln. „Man hat zu viel Zeit, denkt zu viel. Es war echt hart. Das wünsche ich nicht mal meinem größten Feind, dass er da durchmuss.“

An ihrem 29. Geburtstag im vergangenen September dann die Erlösung: „Einen Tag danach lief die Sperre ab, da konnten wir doppelt feiern. Endlich war ich wieder frei.“ Das neue Lebensgefühl sieht man ihr deutlich an: Martina Hingis erscheint so strahlend und schön, dass man sie kaum wieder erkennt. Beim Interview in Zürich wirkt sie total entspannt. Immer wieder bricht sie in Lachen aus, als sie von ihrer zweitFür ihren Verlobten will sie ihr Reiseleben aufgeben
eMartina ist seit Neustem in der Kartei von Option Model, der Schweizer Vertretung von Elite Model, einer der angesehensten Agenturen der Welt. Hier heißen ihre neuen Kolleginnen Gisèle Bündchen, Diane Kruger und Franziska Knuppe. Das ist für das Tennisass wie eine wunderbare sportliche Herausforderung: „Ich liebe dieses Rollenspiel, die Verwandlung. Das Modeln motiviert mich wahnsinnig“, sagt sie. Früher wurde sie bewundert für schnelle Ballwechsel und Kampfgeist – jetzt für Charme und Schönheit. „Ich habe schon viele Komplimente für mein fotogenes Gesicht und meine Ausstrahlung bekommen. Ich bin zufrieden mit meinem Aussehen. Die Proportionen sind okay. Ich wäre zwar gern ein bisschen größer, aber ich werde ja auch kein Laufstegmodel.“

Weiterer Vorteil für Hingis: Sie kann sich jetzt Jobs aussuchen, die ihr Spaß machen. Sie selbst bestimmt, wie viel Stress sie auf sich nehmen will, denn sie ist eine reiche Frau: Auf ihrem Konto liegen geschätzte 40 Mio. Euro.

Doch ganz ohne Sport und ohne Jet-set geht’s nicht. Ab und zu spielt Martina Hingis noch Tennis, will bei der Team-Tennistour in den USA aufspielen. Vor allem aber reitet sie. Eine Leidenschaft seit ihrer Kindheit. Mit ihren Pferden startet sie bei Society-Turnieren in Cannes, Monaco oder Basel. Da heißen ihre Konkurrentinnen dann Athina Onassis, 25, oder Charlotte Casiraghi, 23. „Das sind wirklich nette Mädchen, ganz natürlich. Mit ihnen befreundet bin ich zwar nicht, aber quatschen tun wir schon.“

Doch viel wichtiger als Modeln, Sport und große Welt ist etwas ganz anderes im Leben der Martina Hingis. Die Liebe zu ihrem Freund Andreas Bieri, 38, Anwalt aus Zürich. Im Interview zögert sie einen Moment, dann überwindet sie sich und verrät ihr kleines Geheimnis: Einen Tag vor Weihnachten hat Andreas ihr einen Heiratsantrag gemacht. „An dem Tag war unser Einjähriges, ich war total überrascht. Natürlich hab ich angenommen.“

Beim Interview fehlt der Ring am Finger. Er muss noch richtig angepasst werden, damit er beim Sport nicht verloren geht: „Er ist mein Glücksbringer“, sagt Martina und lächelt wieder. Für Andreas will sie ihr rastloses Reiseleben aufgeben: „Endlich habe ich die Zeit, eine normale Beziehung zu führen. Ich freue mich jetzt jeden Abend, nach Hause zu kommen. Andreas ist ein toller Mann, selbstbewusst, intelligent. Ich bin schon sehr eigenwillig, aber er kann mir standhalten.“

Sehnt sie sich denn nie nach ihren großen Erfolgen zurück? „Nein, ich weiß, was ich für den Sport geopfert habe. Ich feiere zwar keine Siege mehr, dafür ist mein Leben viel entspannter. Ich hatte eine Superkarriere und dem Tennis verdanke ich, dass ich mir jetzt so ein Leben leisten kann. Das können ja nicht so viele 30-Jährige.“

Congratulations! This is the news I've been waiting to hear since they decided to live together. I'm sure Martina will still be "busy" with other things but at 29 it's time for her to marry and hopefully start a family. Certainly Federer has embraced marriage and fatherhood with great "gusto" so the ultimate goal would be for Martina to be a mother someday, she has said herself many times she would welcome children into her life so now she will have a chance for fulfillment and contentment. A short sum up of her career, some words about her feelings after the ban: she still has difficulties to talk about it. She felt excluded from her world and felt a huge unfairness: nobody had had such a long ban for that. She was first furious, but then felt paralysed.
Then she appreciated her new life (Nutella for breakfast, TV, holidays and parties when she wanted). Then she was bored. "I don't wish this my best enemy".

Since the end of the ban she seems again happy in her life, beaming, laughing a lot. They evoke her riding and WTT participation, her first steps as a modell.

Andreas proposed one day before Christmas, it was their first birthday together. She doesn't have a ring yet (???), because she needs one that fits her finger so that she doesn't lose it doing sports. About Andreas: "I'm quite headstrong, but he can withstand me".
